A pile of URL shorteners

Post by DaveG » Sun Feb 21, 2010 6:42 am

Flagfox 4.0 comes with two URL shortener actions included by default, tr.im and bit.ly. (the former in the context menu by default and the latter in reserve available in the options dialog) There's a billion of these out there, so here's a bunch more I've found:
  • Tiny URL
    http://tinyurl.com/create.php?url={fullURL}
  • tiny.cc URL
    http://tiny.cc/?fullurl={fullURL}
  • is.gd URL
    http://is.gd/create.php?longurl={fullURL}
  • Shorl URL
    http://shorl.com/create.php?url={fullURL}&go=Shorlify!
  • NotLong URL
    http://notlong.com/?url={fullURL}
  • idek URL
    http://idek.net/shorten/?idek-url={fullURL}
  • kl.am URL
    http://kl.am/add?url={fullURL}
  • tinyarro.ws URL
    http://tinyarro.ws/api-create.php?host=xn--egi.ws&url={fullURL}
tinyarro.ws is one of my favorites thus far, as it produces hyper-tiny and awesome looking URLs like:
http://➞.ws/霝

When going to create custom action templates for these, I'm finding that quite a few shorteners don't automatically output their results page with a URL you can make a template out of. However, if it has a bookmarklet then you can usually find a URL in there to turn into a template you can use here, though it may take a little more work.

I just took a look at that URL shortener site, and unfortunately they only use a form submission. The URL to be shortened isn't passed in the service's URL so there's no way to create a template. I looked for a bookmarklet which sometimes exists and has an alternate URL that would work, but it doesn't seem to have one. Granted, the site is in Farsi so I might be missing something, but I'm pretty sure there isn't one available there.

Sorry, not every service can be made into a Flagfox action. There are many URL shorteners in particular that seem to make a point of only having form submission to make it harder for URLs to be shortened using any automation, and Flagfox falls under that category to some degree.
