[Request] Export Actions / Import Actions

Post by Wanabo » Fri Jan 17, 2014 8:29 pm

Stumbled today on Flagfox after uninstalling some not to mention add on with security risks.

I'm very impressed and I started to add flags to fit my needs.

This post is about a request. The title says it all. I have multiple portable FF installations. If it would be possible to export my current flags and import it in to my other installations it would save a lot of work.

Also this import / export tool may also come in handy when sharing flags here in the forums.

Why would you need to add flags? If it's because the default flags in the current stable release are ugly and missing some updates, take a look at the current beta:

Did you mean actions (the things in the menu that do lookups that you can customize via the options dialog) rather than flags?

Sorry, yes I meant the actions. English is not my native language. I misinterpreted the term flag as being the code in the template line when editing a custom action or adding a new action.

Flagfox can actually import and export actions already. To export one, you can just drag it out of the options window into a text box, a forum post box, for example:
Google Safe Browsing
http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site={domainName}
Just make sure to check "Do not automatically parse URLs" in the forum posting page so it doesn't automatically linkify things partially.

You can highlight the above two lines of text and drag it into a Flagfox options window, or copy and paste it in using ctrl+v, or click the menu next to the add button and select the paste option. This also works with lists of actions:
Google Safe Browsing
http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site={domainName}
Translate Selection
javascript:{openURL("http://translate.google.com/#auto|{locale-os}|"+window.getSelection().toString())}
Paste in the above into the Flagfox options window and it will import both. You can save a file full of actions and just dump the whole thing in to import.

If you use Firefox Sync, there is a hidden option to enable it for Flagfox, however it's quite experimental and a little buggy. With Flagfox 5.0b2+ it will probably be a little more viable of an option.

If you'd like to just backup any arbitrary Firefox or addon option, you could also copy it out of about:config if you wanted to, though that's not quite as user-friendly.

Thanks for the explanation. I see now Flagfox can do so much more than first meets the eye. :D
Time for me to dig into the manuals before I ask the obvious.

Keep up the great work!

Everything in Flagfox itself is translated into most languages, but the stuff here is all in English. If anything here is unclear just ask. :)
