Error Message -- addon null

Post by acim711 » Fri Nov 11, 2011 7:11 pm

I received the following error message when opening firefox. I simply clicked on the FF icon and walked away when I came back the error message below was on the screen. I then did my best to follow the trouble shooting directions -- there were no recent updates --- I am running 8.0 and FF is up to date. I have Windows XP and use ESET Nod32 and I recently renewed this and upgraded to their Smart Security 5. I have reopened FF and so far so good. I have not done any uninstalls of FF -- do you suggest I do that just to be safe?
I have also included the info about my FF from the troubleshooting info page
I am a novice and don't know what else to do at this point
My main question is ---- How do I know if I need to uninstall/reinstall FF !!???

This is a bug in Firefox's Addon Manager that occurs for a few people when they do a major Firefox update. Please reinstall Flagfox (uninstall Flagfox, restart Firefox, then install Flagfox again) to fix the problem.

I got the "exact" same error message as above upon first boot-up of computer this morning.
Interesting to note, I'm running WinXP SP3, windows updated last week, NOT WinNT 5.1 as error message on previous poster's, and on my screen said.
Firefox dog slow due to error messages, numerous requests to "end now because firefox non-responsive"

Reason for posting a) go to tools, error console, errors/warnings/messages, the word for word error message "flashed to me" on boot up is NOT there. This one is:

Reason for posting b) last night, son was using google chrome to browse web, downloaded and installed something called vGrabberYouTubeDownload - that is only known change to my system.

Other errors in error console - Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Cannot modify properties of a WrappedNative" nsresult: "0x80570034 (NS_ERROR_XPC_CANT_MODIFY_PROP_ON_WN)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://global/content/bindings/autocomplete.xml :: onxblpopuphiding :: line 862" data: no]

and - in warnings, a whole bunch of Warning: Error in parsing value for 'background-image'. Declaration dropped.

I'm NOT a troubleshooter, have NO idea what any of this stuff means. Will eventually return to computer, delete the vgrabberyoutube software, reboot, and if firefox is still acting funky, try to uninstall then reinstall firefox, rebooting in between. Just thought that someone who understands "codings" in these errors might be interested in what happenned/how error messages don't match. G'luck guys n gals.

Microsoft Windows internally refers to its versions by its kernel versions, just to confuse people. WinNT 5.1 is Windows XP, WinNT 6.0 is Vista, and yet more confusing, WinNT 6.1 is Windows 7. That's what Windows reports to applications asking it for information so that's what gets output in errors.

Not sure what that is, but it's not related to Flagfox. Might be related to whatever is stalling everything.

Don't pay any attention to CSS warnings. Every site is littered with them. Most are simply because sites often write CSS for different browsers' features, e.g. code for IE's way of doing things (if it exists), plus also Firefox's way of doing things, plus also Google/Safari's way of doing things. Each browser just ignores the not applicable parts, but Firefox feels the need to log that it did so (and probably shouldn't bother). Hopefully eventually all the browsers will support all of the standards equally so sites will stop doing this.

We have a troubleshooting page (see #5) that give you some info on troubleshooting extensions, however if you're getting the "addon is null" error, that should be fixed easily by reinstalling Flagfox (first uninstall it, restart Firefox, then install it again). That error is caused by a Firefox bug that tends to happen to a few dozen people each Firefox update and also affects some other extensions beyond Flagfox.
