Google Toolbar + Personas Plus 1.6 = stall/error [RESOLVED]

Apparently it's been discovered that the problem lies squarely within Personas Plus 1.6 itself and the total breakage can happen with combinations with other extensions besides just Google Toolbar. (see bug 590608 comment 34)

Apparently it's also been discovered that while the hugely stupid problem lies in Personas Plus 1.6, there was another bug in Google Toolbar as well (see bug 590608 comment 41), and it was the combination of these two bugs that caused Extension Armageddon here. Any other extensions that have a similar bug to Google's will also trigger this mess. Google is in the process of updating all their toolbar users to a new version which fixes this problem... though because this mess breaks the Extension Manager that means updating may or may not work.

A patch is also in the works to add some defenses to Firefox 3.6.10 to resist the various stupidities to some degree. Firefox 4+ is already running an entirely different backend that is immune to this.

Personas Plus 1.6 may or may not get blocklisted entirely to kill this horrid mess, which may require extra force than usual, because it breaks the Extension Manager... including the blocklisting system. I'll post again when that gets settled.

A Personas Plus version 1.6.1 which fixes the problem in 1.6 is in the process of being made available by Mozilla Labs. You should be free to install it or update to it when it is made available if you choose. You could of course just uninstall the whole thing altogether because you probably don't need it. In-Firefox fixes and blocklist decisions are still pending.

Mozilla is now pushing a blocklist update to kill Personas Plus 1.6 dead on whatever systems' Extensions Managers are functioning still. (full hard block; no user override option) This affects Personas Plus 1.6 only and only Firefox 3.6.*. As noted above, the next Firefox update might be needed to fully clean up the mess.

Personas Plus 1.6.1 is now up and available, which should fix any problems here. If not, file a bug against them in Bugzilla.

Once the error reports related to this god awful mess of theirs stop rolling in, I'll push out this month's Flagfox IPDB update which was delayed due to this and other reasons.
